RE: Scott n Nigel n Buck n The Who

"...these idols can and do react and I wouldn't want the remarks of someone here being the excuse then voiced in days / years to come by the idol(s) for why they never tried to write and performing something that could replace an element of their own history!"

He's got no shortage of detractors and advocates. Roger seems to be both and he is Pete's biggest fan IMHO. Check out these quotes from Roger's recent interview:

"Its always frustrated me that Pete wrote so articulately about the problems of adolescence, but was dry about middle age." He's completey dismissing songs about aging and struggling with maturity on WBN, WAY, FD and IH.

But then he says: "The foremost reason is the fact that weve got all those wonderful Pete Townshend songs to play. Theyre timeless. Secondly, we can still deliver it well. If that starts to wane, we will stop. I often wonder why it all happened this way. There must be a big answer, but I havent got it. When is it going to finish? Who knows? I still think our best work is in front of us. Ive always felt that. When Pete said, Its Hard is our final record, in 1982, I thought, I dont know about that. Ive always felt our best work could come now."

I think he's trying to coach Pete into playing his traditional position of composer on the team. The tension between them in these two interviews is palpable. That seems to me be the right place for them to be to get some good work together.

BTW, I really do not think what we say on these lists has any affect at all on the band. Sure, some in their camps probably skim some of this stuff, but I just don't think it goes much further than curiosity on their part. I have no facts to base this on - I'm only guessing.
