Re: Scott's posting

You didn't like my post about that local band that got signed to Columbia
either! Man, I'm batting 0 for 2 with you lately!

Listen, Nigel, I didn't write the rules when it comes to Rock Stars & their
Fans. I'm simply swept up in it. I didn't decide to become a Who fan just
because I needed a hobby. As with many of the best experiences in life,
it just happened. I am the fan & I can't switch it off.

That said, if you really think I don't have a clue about Pete's fears & insecur-
ities as an artist then I'm afraid you're mistaken. That's a topic I've spent the
last 20 years of my life contemplating - sometimes daily.

Now of course I'm not buddy-buddy with Pete, so I can't say I know "the
real him," but my views & opinions are hardly blind inferences, based on
speculation as to what Pete might be going through while he grapples with
the idea of a new Who album in 2002. Pete provides the fodder & I plunge
in.

And I react not because I want to be devious, or an asshole, or a trouble-
maker. I assure you my feelings are pure. When I berate Pete for his lack-
adaisical attitude toward a new Who album, I do it as hopeful yet disappoint-
ed fan, not someone who's wishing for failure. I'm on his side.

But does that mean as fans, we don't have a right to our opinions? Our opin-
ions are somehow less valid because we haven't walked in Pete's shoes?
Should all criticism of Art be denied every non-artist? That sounds rather
unfulfilling, doesn't it?

And another thing - with The Who (and especially Pete) the fan feels, rightly
or wrongly, that he or she is "in the game." Much more so than with most
Rock artists. The band / audience feedback loop. Pete knows it exists. He
berates the audience & the critics all the time! And he's never walked in *my*
shoes! How dare he assume to know how his art should affect me, given my
own unique set of life experiences. The nerve!

Nigel, didn't I have to explain myself to you once before when you misinter-
preted one of my sarcastic posts? While I'm not denying my opinions & feel-
ings of my original offending post, I believe I told you that my posts are often
geared toward a comic, sarcastic, or irreverent tone, which admittedly doesn't
always translate to this particular medium. Perhaps if we were conversing
whilst lifting bevvies down at the local......I don't know.

But in the end you're right & I've stated it before: I was a bit too nasty & neg-
ative in my original post & perhaps should've laid it on a little less thick. I do
apologize but can't promise it won't happen again.

You're obviously unfamiliar with my line of macrame' decorative products. I
do quite well at the local flea markets, ya' know.

Sorry if I bummed you out, Nigel. That certainly wasn't my intention. I'm not
as ignorant & uninformed as you might think. I'm just a passionate Who fan
amongst many others, trying to figure it all out.

Peace & Who......
