Pete seems to play bass perfectly well.  Several fans have commented on how 
his demos from the Seventies contain approximately the same bass lines that 
Entwistle plays on the studio albums.  It wasn't until they went live that 
you heard The Ox start to dress them up.  If they wanted Pino to do it, or 
Chucho Merchan, or various guest bassists, that would be fine, too.

Something interesting comes to mind here.  I gather that when they wanted to 
hire a keyboard player, The Who held auditions.  Rabbit describes the four 
hour jam that was his audition on his website.  But apparently there was 
never any audition to replace Keith Moon.  Pete seems to have just invited 
Kenney to do it.  If they wanted to go on as a band, should they audition 
bass players to find someone with a similar skill and approach to John, or 
is that too much like "replacement."
