Booty Review
I got a new double-CD the other day. It's called OUTRAGEOUS:
THE WHO MADISON SQUARE GARDEN 1976. Purports to be
from 3/11/76.
Pretty bad sound quality. Moon's drums suffer the most. Sometimes
they're reduced to an incomprehensible, muffled rumble.....and not in
a good way.
Yet I enjoyed listening to it. The vocals are loud. The guitar's there.
Bass is OK. They do "Slip Kid!" I guess it's safe to say "Slip Kid"
is a live rarity. It's awkward here. Not too bad but......cues are miss-
ed, the pace is rushed, shite ending...... Poor "Slip Kid."
Moon has some trouble at this show. He's sometimes behind the beat a
bit ("See Me, Feel Me") & he damn near butchers "Baba O'Riley" by
coming in way too early during Pete's "Don't cry....." part. Which prompts
Pete to say later:
We'd like to apologize to you all for missing the show
yesterday, and uh....looks like there's a good chance of
missing the show today as well so....(laughter - from
Rog?) This one.... I don't know what's fucking going
on. I'm only the guitar player.
The "My Generation Blues" version here is a bit different from the run-
of-the-mill. They kind of apply the lyrics at a different part of the jam
which makes it louder & chunkier.
There's some outstanding Pete solo work towards the end of the jam.
Just beautiful. And then...right when you're expecting WGFA to kick
in....the 2nd CD ends. Errrrr!
