THE WHO
Live at Leeds (Deluxe Edition)
A recording of urgency and energy from the beginning
with the perpetual crashing of Keith Moon's cymbals,
the incisive slashes of the guitarist Pete Townshend,
John Entwistle's bass, grandiose and sensual, and the
hoarse voice of Roger Daltrey, as a rallying cry. At
first republished on CD identical to the LP (a little
more than thirty minutes of a concert by The Who on
February 14, 1970), increased by several titles in
1995, Live at Leeds now includes the stripped-down
stage version of their rock-opera Tommy. The liner
notes are detailed with a presentation minutely
faithful to the original edition, the sound propelled
with the latest techniques. For the next edition
(DVD-AUDIO, SACD), it will remain to restore the exact
order of the concert. Tommy, here on the second CD,
came not at the end of the concert, but bracketed by
the successes of the group (Substitute, Happy Jack)
and some rather knocked about classic blues and rock
'n' roll (Young Man Blues, Shakin ' All Over).

1 double Record CD MCA 088 112 618-2. Distributed by
Universal Music.
