Probably the most influential bassist of all times,
quantitatively speaking (Macca and Entwistle were
certainly the most influential in rock music, but
Jaco's influence covered lots of musical genres).

Saddily, the question should be "who was Jaco
Pastorius", as he died tragically in the eighties.

Also, he was the guy who invented the fretless bass.
He removed the frets from his precision bass and
covered the holes with epoxi, and then the industries
began to produce the fretless bass commercialy.

If you like jazz, fusion, funk or avant-garde, you
will probably like his stuff.
