What all this arguing about WTC has to do with The Who

I just thought I'd take a moment between volleys to say that I credit The
Who for encouraging me to think about things like this. How? To me, here's
how it works.

The Who began by rejecting all the known values in the songs of their first
album. This is what punk rock later did with their songs.

But with The Who it didn't end there. With each new album, The Who (or
Townshend?) began to sift through the rubble left by that rejection and find
what was worth keeping and what its true value was. Commercialism.
Spirituality. Marriage. Family. Social responsibility. And they encouraged
me to do the same. Grow up and learn what your values are. Don't take
someone else's values as the gospel truth. Don't rest your beliefs on
unexamined values. Know yourself and know what you are for and what your
against before the storm hits. Don't be fooled again.
