I teach world politics at the premier academic high school in new orleans...

here is what's going to happen. There will be an attempt to find bin laden
but not an extensive one outside of trying to get pakistan to help bring him
in (which they won't despite certain promises made to powell and bush today).
Once found he would make sure he dies before being captured- and maybe try
to take a few american operatives with him, only enhancing his status as a
fundamentalist leader. It will do us no good to have him martyred.
Afghanistan will most definitely get bombed in the mother of all bombings.
The full brunt of US air power will be brought to bear. Ground invasion
unlikely. Good chance Iraq gets pounded also and don't be surprised if Iran
gets it, too. If Pakistan reneges on its pledge to lend assistance, they are
going to get attacked, as well. It would not be surprising if Bush cuts the
Israelis loose on the Palestinians after their show of glee in the streets
Tuesday night. Nukes are not an option. The UK, France (maybe), Germany,
and a few other euros will participate. The afghans are of little
consequence in the oil industry (FYI). This marks the beginning of the end
of the era of Islamic Terrorism. Once countries are sufficiently afraid to
harbor terrorists after seeing what we do to the Afghans, terrorist groups
will find it nearly impossible to successfully implement their plans.
