Niccol checks in at 'Terminal' for DreamWorks
By Zorianna Kit and Beth Laski
LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- Filmmaker Andrew Niccol has a deal
to direct for DreamWorks the dramatic feature "Terminal" and is developing
the script written by Sacha Gervasi ("The Big Tease").
"Terminal" centers on a Balkan immigrant visiting the United States who is
forced to make the airport international transit lounge his permanent home
after he learns that the borders of his war-torn country have been blurred,
voiding his passport and leaving him without a country. Making friends among
the airport employees, the man meets and falls in love with a Latin flight
attendant, which prompts his bold escape a year later.
"Terminal" has been in development at DreamWorks for a while. The project
will mark the first time Niccol will direct material that he has not
written. He wrote and produced "The Truman Show" and directed "Gattaca" from
his own script.
Gervasi is working on a rewrite of the script, and no talent is yet
attached.
Niccol will produce, with former DreamWorks production executive Jason Hoffs
executive producing. Adam Goodman is the DreamWorks creative executive
overseeing the project.
Niccol, repped by CAA, recently wrapped directing New Line Cinema's
"Simone," which he also wrote and produces.
Gervasi, repped by WMA, also received an executive producing credit on "The
Big Tease." He wrote "The Keith Moon Story" at Warner Bros., which Brad
Silberling is attached to direct, and "Shockproof Sidney Skate" for Fox 2000
with Cameron Crowe attached to direct.
