sagging record sales, eh?

During all this talk about whether or not to trade
BTTB or the upcoming Denver 2000 download, someone
(keets?) made some comment about the industry and
"sagging record sales". Someone should point out that
during the era of digital downloads and Napster the
RIAA celebrated not one but two record breaking first
week sales figures (Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys)
and saw an overall rise of 8% in CD album sales.
When RIAA fuhrer Hilary Rosen stepped up to the plate
and complained that Napster was killing artists and
that sales were down 4%, she was actually citing a
figure pertaining to CD SINGLES, a market that has
dropped every year for the past decade.
