Moon Influence - Sandy Nelson

While thumbing through LP's at my favorite local used record store, I
came across an album with a drummer on the cover who looked shock-
ingly like a young, impish Keith Moon. His name was Sandy Nelson.

With song titles like "Big Noise From the Jungle," "Drums Are My Beat,"
& "Let There Be Drums," I thought, "This might be interesting." So I bought
it.

Well, it *was* interesting. Kinda early 60's swing music with more than a
touch of rockabilly, this Sandy Nelson guy lays down some nasty, plodding,
Keith-like beats. Lots of tom-tom & floor-tom work. Thumping 8th notes,
etc.

I looked Sandy's name up in the index of Fletcher's Moon biography & in-
deed he's mentioned twice.

Anyone who isn't put off by swing or rockabilly & wants to here some neat,
early, Moon-ish style playing, check out Sandy Nelson. I'm definitely gonna
search for more.
