RE: Substitute: the songs of the Who

As an avid Phish phan as well (I just ran the gammut, don't I?!?) I feel I
should jump in here on their behalf. The version of 5.15 performed by Phish
that appeared on the Substitute album is from a live performance (10-31-95,
Rosemont Horizon, IL). Now, Phish almost yearly at Halloween dons a
"Musical Costume" and replicates an entire album on stage. Their point
isn't necessarily to "cover" the album, per se. Anyone who's ever heard
their gorgeous rendition of "Drowned" knows their not afraid to do Who songs
a little differently. Screw Rolling Stone for not thinking before they
"speak" and throwing Phish in with everyone else who performed their songs
identically to the original!

They say these versions, except Bowie's, are too "reverent" toward
the originals.
