My Recent Who Purchases

I found a nice, German CD pressing of everyone's favorite Who album
WHO'S LAST. This comes in one double CD case (unlike the American
release which uses two separate, single CD cases) & has the burning British
flag version as its cover.

What can I say about this CD? Nifty ending to "Dr. Jimmy." WHO'S LAST
doesn't bother me as much as it bothers a lot of you. In fact, I like many of the
songs. Plus, some of it was recorded in Cleveland & my older brother might've
been in attendance (I say "might've" cause they played *two* shows in Cleveland
on that tour & I'm not sure which night's tracks were used).

The other CD I got is a CD-R (light green) "import" with a really dumb title that
I can't figure out. Ready?.....It's called THE WHO: LOVE, CRY WANT LIGHT
BY US - UNRELEASED 1969 SHOW. Love, cry want light by us? Uh...ok, sure!
I suppose each of those words can be found in Who song titles, but really.....

Anyway, it claims to be a soundboard recording from the Hippodrome, Bristol, UK
Dec. 4, 1969. It does have decent sound but there are problems. The CD begins
in the middle of "Acid Queen" & there are quite a few drop outs where a track might
end abrubtly.

Plus, & here's where I really got fucked, folks, my CD stops playing about 3:30
into "Shakin' All Over" & the last track, "My Generation" isn't accessible! That
atleast explains the word "cry" in the title, right?. Fucking bullshit.

All the while listening to the TOMMY stuff I was thinking, "Well it's a shame "Young
Man Blues," "Amazing Journey," & "Sparks" aren't on here but atleast I get the wild,
abandonment of "My Generation." Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

    You've been screwed again
If you let them do it to ya'
    Ya' got yourself to blame

Well, here's what's on this wonderful, high-quality "import" CD:

Acid Queen (well, half of her anyway)
Pinball Wizard
Do You Think It's Alright
Fiddle About
Tommy Can You Hear Me
There's A Doctor
Go To the Mirror
Smash the Mirror
Miracle Cure
Sally Simpson (always nice to add a live version of this song to my collection)
I'm Free (how can we FAH-LOOOO!!!! - Pete "Falsetto" Townshend)
Tommy's Holiday Camp
We're Not Gonna Take It
Summertime Blues
Shakin' All Over (see above)
My Generation (ahem...not on my copy)

The best thing about this album is the sound, which is quite a few notches above
the normal "import" sound quality, & surprisingly, the circa 1969 pictures used
for the packaging are rare & great fun to look at. But, alas, the disappointments
are many, so I have to give this one a Final Grade of D. Plus that goofy title; that
doesn't help things either.

Well now, WHO'S LAST is looking better by the minute, isn't it?!
