I think the original topic was The Who, specifically is 'My Generation'
the original acorn from which the entire punk forrest sprouted? I think
ML said it was the most influential rock song since 1965.

So lets say the Ramones did not influence SP, did 'My Generation'
influence both? For extra credit - how?

I actually have The History of Rock and Roll Video Series that does a great
explanation on the evolution of Punk.
It's not the crappy series that was on TLC but on Public TV here in NY.

They said The Modern Lovers (Jonathan Richman &Co ) were the first real punk
band and The Ramones took what they did and put some more energy into it.
Then came early Patty Smith , Television etc....But Punk didn't really take
of in the States...but in economically troubled London it did because of
the attitude . Malcolm McLarren took this influence and molded the Sex
Pistols...but the Pistols seemed doomed from the beginning and it was the
Clash who really gave punk it's mass appeal due to the use of Reggae
...etc...

Oddly enough there is no mention of The Who in any part of this series.
However it excellent . If you see it on public television I highly recommend
you check it out.
