Kenney vs. Tim

Good topic, Scott. Here are my thoughts.

I would say that the problem was Tim Gorman. In 1979 and 1982, Kenney's
drumming, while not specatular was acceptable. Gorman, on the other hand,
was very stale and uninvolved. It seemed when listenning to the 1982 tour
boots, etc. that it was as if the feeling was that they needed a
keyboardist because most bands have one on tour. In 1979, however, Rabbit
was an integral part of the planning for the live show and the stage show
itself.

In contrast to 1982, The WHO in 1979 was much more alive and
improvisational. While he is no Moon, Kenney did a good job. He was not
wild, and was much more technical than Moon. Some of my favorite WHO was
from the 1979 tour. Kenney went right along with the band and even led at
times (check out My Wife and My Generation/I Can See for Miles from New
Haven...Boot named Gonna Rape You).

Listen to the keyboard in 1979 and 1982. The difference is easy to hear.
Rabbit improvises while Tim Gorman sounds like he is playing sheet music.

Another factor could have been alcohol and drug abuse. Pete was clean in
1982, not in 1979.

What do others think?
