Palmer Power/White City/Go Gloria

Because - to me, when Carl Palmer does a snare/tom drum roll it sounds like
an Uzi being fired off in the distance. When Keith Moon does a snare/tom
drum roll is sounds like an atomic bomb going off in your living room.
That's why. Therein lies the difference - to me!

Just so you and Mark don't "look me up": Don't get me wrong - I love to
listen to CP in any form I can get because he's so good. He's a virtuoso on
drums no doubt. BUT - I still can't see him in The Who. Mark said as a
roadie for ELP he knows that CP has power; he's seen it. Mark, you don't
have to be a roadie to see CP play - you can buy a ticket to see the show; I
know, I have several times. I know too that CP has power when he wants it.
BUT (again?), Bill Bruford can show power when he wants to as well. I can't
see him in The Who either even though I think Bruford is the greatest
"technical" drummer ever. I'm not disputing CP's power, but it just doesn't
seem Who-enough for me - for me!

Keets: I must've missed out on the news that Pete is working on staging
White City. It seems to me to be very difficult indeed to produce this, as
you said, there is no defined plot within the album itself. I too love
White City, and when it was released, I gave a speech on it in college about
it. What made it "genius" as I called it then was the fact that a person
couldn't understand the plotline of White City without all three facets of
it: 1. The album. 2. The story piece that accompanies it. 3. The
film/video. Ever notice that individually, each facet is ambiguous, but
collectively, it makes sense? Pretty groundbreaking for 1985 but I'm not
sure how that holds up today. I know the music does...

Hear! Hear! If Rolling Stone were lord of the region and I was a peasant
(ok, hold your remarks), I'd grab up my rake and torch and storm the castle!
They truly suck and have for years. Where's Dr. Gonzo when you really need
him...?

Peace,

Jim in Colo Springs
