I'll give you a reason why Pete's lyrics are great.  Word choice.  That's
right.....word choice.  He uses good words.

He uses fresh words & avoids cliches.  Rules No. 1 & 2 in any creative
writing class.

Another reason:  his imagery is outstanding.  One song may conjure up
dozens of images for the listener.  And that's not as easy as it sounds.
To be sharp, the images, like the words themselves, must be fresh &
undiluted by commonality.

I feel Pete's lyrics are just as good as the music that surrounds them.
They'd have to be or else I wouldn't be along for the ride.

Because.........IT'S HARD!  *You* try it.  Plus, Pete knows he can't
really control it.  That's part of the creative process.  Some poets go 
months, or even years, not being able to write anything.

You can't always get it when you really want it......
