interesting article

Popular Who reference on the front page of USA Weekend: The Kids Are
Alright.

Other than that, there's an interesting article on how much MTV sucks these
days. A few choice quotes:

Two decades after bursting onto the airwaves in a genuine youthquake, how
has MYV been reduced to chasing drunken college girls around the beach?

..the older MTV gets, the lower the median age of its audience seems to
sink. A network initilly aimed at a broad cross section of youths now
targets its cash mining operation at the wallets of middle-schoolers.

The problem is that nagging sense that behind this subversiveness is a goup
of men wearing $2000 suits holding manila folders full of market research.

...we are watching it because the men in suits have determined that it is
exactly the kind of thing 13-year-old boys will watch, and thus is the
perfect vehicle to sell...

They also mention that MTV prefers to support marginal (but high grossing)
artists such as Jennifer Lopez, NSync and Puff Daddy, rather than serious,
good-quality musicians. (We all knew this, didn't we?) The narrow
programming must not be working as well as they'd hoped, though. Apparently
MTV has announced that they will be moving back toward more music
programming.
