WhoFest 2001 (Digest V7, #281)

WhoFest 2001 is a great idea.
The Baba Centre is a great centerpiece as part of a Who fan gathering.
It is a Don't-Miss-It Life-Changing experience.

I have always, always dreamed about going to the Baba Centre and this was
all that I thought it would be and more. Any serious Who fan and/or
Townshend fan should not mess this opportunity.

Plus, Myrtle Beach is a fun resort-style town with lots of activities to
delight out-of-towners. It's a great vacation destination, and with its'
House of Blues, Harley Davidson Cafe, Hard Rock Cafe and other sites; Myrtle
Beach is a great Rock and Roll town, too. MB was a longtime secret
playground for many elite Rock-and-Roll stars and they have left their mark.
(See Keith Moon's pants, Pete's stripped-down guitar and John's pristine
bass!) WhoFest 2001 could really be a smashing success with proper travel
planning. Remember that most fans will be travelling in and aren't local
residents, so they need additional information that local folk would already
know. As long as the details are worked out so the fans can congregate at
similar/nearby hotels and meeting places and if the organisational
arrangements are handled well, it could really work.
The key is to have a central focus and places because Myrtle Beach is too
spread out to just randomly have Who fans get there with no planned
interaction opportunities. That planning is what made this year's Who
Concert Tour pre-shows more cohesive, I think, and made sure no one got left
out. Great planning could make the WhoFest a real experience, too.
And all those who can go, should DEFINITELY go.

>>> The second and most important reason is the original US Meher Baba
Center. We toured it during the last Fest and it was hands down the
highlight of the Festival. There are people on this list who can confirm
this. Not only is it interesting (fascinating) to see where Pete wrote
material for Lifehouse We were fortunate enough to have a guide who was
also a Townshend/Who fan, so we were able to go to a lot of places Pete
frequents (the Lantern Cabin) and see video of Pete playing live. This year
the Center has most generously offered a "Whofest" day, which will be ten
times what the tour was.
