How can an English band be an "American Master"???

VH1's web site is reporting
(http://www.vh1.com/thewire/news/article.jhtml?ID=958) that in December
2001, the PBS cultural history series AMERICAN MASTERS will have an episode
on Sun Records, in honor of the 50th anniversary of its founding. For the
(hopefully) few of you who do not know, Sun Records was the one-time label
of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison,
Charlie Rich, and a score of other early rock and country artists. Prior to
forming Sun, its founder, Sam Phillips recorded some of the first recordings
of such R&B artists as Howlin' Wolf, BB King, and Ike Turner (pre-Tina).

Phillips' contemporary, Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun, will be
producing the soundtrack for this episode (which presumably will be released
on Atlantic). Featured on the recording, according to this article, will be
Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, Lord Bob Dylan (well . . if he was
English, they would have knighted him by now), Rod Stewart, Jeff Beck, Van
Morrison, Aerosmith, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant . . . oh yea . . . this
band . . . what was their name again . . . oh of course . . . The Who.

And now perhaps we will get to have an official recording of I Walk The
Line? (No, Ring of Fire would not be eligible, although it is a Johnny Cash
song. Merle Kilgore and June Carter Cash did not write that song, and
Johnny Cash did not record it until 1963, by which time Cash was on Columbia
Records.) How about Tiger Man? Or Wild Child? Any other suggestions?

WHO LINK TO SUN RECORDS:	Sam Phillips sold off Sun Records in 1969, by which
time the label became little more than a reissue label. Phillips however
has not hurt for money over the last 30 years. He was an early investor in
a Memphis hotel, which was named for a Bing Crosby movie--Holiday Inn!!!
Yes . . . the same Holiday Inn that became the chain that The Who was
(allegedly) banned from!!! And now . . . you know . . . THE REST OF THE
STORY!!!

BW Radley . . . GOOD DAY!!!

PS:	Came across today at http://www.blueconcerts.com/index.html a promo film
showing live footage for the current tour.
