Rock legends out in force for charity gig

WHO else would you expect at a charity Who gig but a Who's Who of rock?

All the big names were there as the group raised £1million for The Teenage
Cancer Trust.

Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller, Stereophonics' Kelly Jones, Bryan Adams and Pearl
Jam's Eddie Vedder all stepped up to perform alongside Pete Townshend, Roger
Daltrey and John Entwistle - with Zak Starkey on drums. In the audience were
Mick Jagger, Led Zep's Jimmy Page and Zak's father Ringo Starr. Pete Townshend
impressions? Step forward Gallagher and Weller, who both tried a Townshend-style
windmill on the stage at London's Albert Hall.

When Noel walked on, Townshend quipped: "I'm glad he didn't bring his brother
with him."

The band opened with Can't Explain then played Pinball Wizard, Who Are You and
Mohan's favourite Baba O'Reilly, accompanied by violinist Nigel Kennedy.

The highlight of the gig had to be Noel joining in for Won't Get Fooled Again -
but Kelly also sounded in fine voice on Substitute.

My Generation almost blew the roof off as Jagger and Ringo boogied away.
Afterwards, I was invited into the band's dressing room where super-fit Daltrey
told me: "It was a great set and nice to raise some money for kids with cancer."

He added with a wink: "I thought the youngsters who joined us on stage played
brilliantly too."

Page seemed envious he wasn't playing, and said: "Don't worry I'll be with them
on stage next year. I've had problems with my back and would have loved to have
been up there."

Other guests included Damon Hill, Jeremy Clarkson and film director Martin
Scorsese.
