Well, Daltrey heard it, too.  So when he started planning a big bash for his 
fiftieth birthday, he brought in an orchestra and a conductor and went the 
rest of the way with it.  There had been orchestrations of Townshend's music 
before--the London Symphony (is that right?) did TOMMY, but somebody 
correctly described that version as "immasculated."  Daltrey knows how it 
ought to sound.

If you enjoyed the QUAD tour, you probably know what I mean.  The Who 
personality drives the bigger band and the sound is just huge.  The better 
performances are from 1997 when Pete played for the finale and you get the 
effects of his jazz technique on electric guitar.
