Re: The Who Mailing List Digest V7 #301
Scott,
In response to your comments about the current trends in music you are
correct. Rap metal doesn't have the staying power of classic rock bands and
artists like The Who, the Stones, Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Dylan, and Led
Zeppelin. I am 41 and I'm glad I caught the tail end of some great rock
while it was still happening. The last quality rock was in the early 90's
and since then it has dried up quite abit. The difference in creativity and
song craftsmanship from the late 60's and 70,s compared to now is truly
profound. So fuck it, I'll still pick up CD's from this period. The Who
exemplified this period. I saw the Who in 76 and 80: both shows were
excellent. I also purchased to Who 4 CD boxed set which is well put
together. I wish I had gone to them this summer, I've been hearing that
playing incredibly well. I can't believe Pete has finally returned to hard
picking electric guitar, which he hasn't done for nearly 20 years.
By the way, at a poster shop I recently saw that Who poster at the
Marquee, the one in black and white with Townshend doing a windmill. Does
anyone know if that is a rare poster? Maybe I should go back and buy it.
I saw in a n interview where Daltrey said The Who can't really be
classified in any character: thet weren't Chuck Berry stye rock, nor blues,
nor jazz. They broke the mold. Like the Beatles, The Who will never be
repeated.
