"Oooh and my ears are still ringing..."; "What are words for/When no one listens anymore..."; "Listening to you..."

> Holland's Golden Earring. I'm surprised I haven't read much on your list
> about the comparisons between the two bands.

Ian:

Probably because no one associated them. I mean, the vast majority of
people have heard only Radar Love and Twilight Zone, neither of which sound
anything like The Who. I have Moontan here; I'll give it a listen when I
can tear myself away from BTTB. Uh, just so you know that might not be
right away or anything...

> Well, I could talk about Pete's lyrics all day.

Scott:

You and me both, brother.

"There's a million ways to laugh/And every one's a path..."
"UV lights making starshine of her smile..."
"Sparkle warm crystalline glances to show..."

And my all-time favorite:

"If I told you what it takes to reach the highest high/You'd laugh and say
'Nothing's that simple'/But you've been told many times before/Messiahs
pointed to the door/No one had the guts to leave the temple..."

No, the lyrics are even better than the music. Only Dylan impresses me
more. Uh, that is when Pete's not writing stuff like: "My head's in a
lion's mouth/Wants to eat me up..." or "Are you out there Mr. No one/Is my
investment growing..." Yesh! Then again, Dylan wrote "You can call me
Zimmy..." which is just as bad.

> "Christmas" - There's a lot of lyrics packed into this song......&
they're all outstanding.

Yeah, what about the lines which describe Christmas to perfection:

"Did you see the faces of the children they get so excited/Waking up on
Christmas morning hours before the Winter's sun's ignited..." What an
image!

> The dust is thick, the dog is sick
> The kids have picked most all the flowers

What about "To my surprise what I despise in other guys is here in me..." ?
That captures it to the tee. Been there myself.

> Hear! Hear!

Keets:

I'm listening to it right now, as a matter of fact. How predictable was
that response?
Anyway, My Wife kicks ass...probably my favorite version. Pure And Easy,
always my favorite Who songs, is probably the best sounding song on this
set. I like the vocal trade-off a lot. They nail it. I'm A Boy, on the
other hand, suffers in comparison to the Leeds version (IMHO) not to
mention the studio, and probably should have been left off. Where's I Walk
The Line?

I do have a question for anyone who was at the shows: there are two guitars
on BBE, one an acoustic. Who's playing it? There's no listing on the CD. Is
it Roger?

> Hey, Mark. Do you have your Blues to the BUSH yet? :^)

Jim:

Yep.
