Rap three times on the ceiling; Lifehouse tidbits; more Best Buy blues

>Rap didn't come out of nowhere. It has a tradition behind it, and anyone
>who has studied jazz and blues will be familiar with it.

Keets:

In a sense, you can almost say Pete himself has a solo history of Rap. Stop
Hurting People and Communication from Chinese Eyes. Not MY two favorite PT
songs, but still...

>I'm not a fan of distopian sci-fi, but one of the
>things that most bothered me about 1999's Lifehouse
>radio play was how different it was from hints and
>snippets in the BBC radio documentary.

Rich:

It's as if the main story became the backdrop, and the subplot became the
main story. I find it most strange, and like you I've never liked
post-apocalyptic SF. Farscape is more like it (Sci-Fi Channel, Fridays at 8,
fantastic show). But as brilliant as PT is I felt perhaps HE could pull off
the A Boy And His Dog theme (which is not a bad treatment, for that matter).
Unfortunately, it was shuffled into the background. Maybe if the Lifehouse
movie is made commercial pressure will push the SF forward once again.

> As I
>understand the original (or at least earlier) ending,
>all the good people vanish, presumably reaching a
>higher plane, and the character left at the end is a
>villian--or at least a skeptical, overly cautious
>wimp.

His name, apparently, was to be "Brick"...and Behind Blue Eyes was his song.
Yes, that's how I understood it too.

>Roger. When I hear Pete's "Sister Disco" it's hard to tell if he's joking
>or not.

Brian:

He must be joking, at least part of the time. "I was sown up like a coat."
"With adhesive tape over my nose/I felt almost demure." That couldn't have
been serious.

>Not on the album, however. Hmmmm........S'up wit dat?

Scott:

I'm with you on this, and also on The Who's Time Is Passing where I think
Pete should have done "There's something in the whisper of the trees" etc. I
think it would have been better than Rog's read of that section

>Features 2 tracks from the upcoming Lifehouse Elements CD.

Diane:

Now THAT'S interesting. I am off to Columbia again tomorrow, where the BB
guy assures me "they have plenty" of the bonus disc version of BBC. I'll
look for this one too. I wonder what they mean by "Elements." That's a
version I have yet to hear of.
BTW, I was foiled last night in Charleston once again because the BB closed
at a cowardly 9 PM. I thought I was in a city! The freakin' Old Navy was
still open! Anyway, at least I saw one of my fav Blues guitarists who played
a smoking set (as usual) and I recommend him to any who get the opportunity
to see him: Tinsley Ellis (from Atlanta, Brian...a hometown boy).

           Cheers ML
