THE WHO
If you don't know "who," then you probably should take a good portion of
your rock albums and back over them with your car. Pete Townshend, Roger
Daltrey and John Entwisle return to Los Angeles with a stripped-down show
that recalls the more rockin' roots of this legendary band as opposed to the
more sprawling stage productions of "Quadrophenia" and "Tommy." Sure, some
might scoff at this being another attempt to cash in on a band's past
glories, but unlike some bands from 30 years ago (Mick, your ears should be
burning), The Who -- Pete Townshend in particular -- are unafraid of acting
their age and behaving like rock 'n' roll statesmen. So maybe no guitars
will lose their lives, and maybe it won't be Keith Moon back there pounding
the skins, but one of rock's founding fathers will still be on stage with
some of the most influential music of the '60s. You missed the Beatles, you
missed Led Zeppelin, don't miss a chance to be able to say you saw The
Who. -- Chris Barton
