Gouging is gouging

I think you make a good point; so far, downloaded music costs essentially
the same as a regular release. And with all the hype and discussion about
bypassing the labels, it has had no effect on the price. So the only
conclusion we can come to (assuming the labels are indeed gouging) is that
we've exchanged one rip-off for another. I suppose one might make the point
that at least the artist is getting the money this way. But isn't gouging
still gouging, no matter who does it?
My concern here is since most albums these days have perhaps three really
good songs, how long will it be before the bands make only the three to sell
and forgo the cost of making an entire CD's worth of music? Bye Bye rock
operas and concept albums...
