I think you're right - bit gimmicky, however, I saw his performance and 
thought for the first time he had really begun to get somewhere with his 
acting.

I've always felt a little uncomfortable with Roger's acting.  Always felt he 
was pushing it a bit too far, trying too hard when he could tone it down a 
bit and be really good.  He seemed to achieve it with McVicar - probably 
because he had a good director.  The tone was lost again with As it is 
(title right?) but The Bill was good, I thought.  (For what it's worth!)
