Well, I think the jazz influences (excluding the using of different
kinds of tempo, which happened through all their career) came only in
the 80's. I prefer their 70's material (although, as I said, their 80's
stuff played live is much better in my opinion). Their 70's material is
much more rock-related. Try one of their live albums ("Exit... Stage
Left" or "All the world's a stage")

Oh, I also love Emerson Lake & Palmer. I've heard Keith Emerson is a
very conceited guy and so on, but I just don't care, the man is
incredibly creative. I have their first album (Emerson Lake & Palmer),
Brain Salad Surgery and their live one. I love them all. Some years ago
I wouldn't listen to anything that didn't have a guitar on it, but now I
just love stuff like ELP or Rick Wakeman (who is also known as pompous
guy, for that matter)

Hm, I disagree... I think that Genesis became to poppy and "mindless"
after PG left... Ok, listening to their 80's hit is fun, but I prefer
their more complex works as Selling England by the Pound.
