Pete's in-laws; Pete family tragedy?

Right! To be more accurate, I will say that Edwin Astley is credited as
having arranged the most well-known TV version of "The Saint", although I
had always heard it to be loosely based on an old Irish folk tune.
Astley did work on some of the same productions with Barry Gray and perhaps
in that same studio. I don't know how well-known either Gerry Anderson or
Barry Gray is in the States, sadly, unless people remember "Thunderbirds"
and "Space: 1999". I think those shows might have had more airplay here than
"Stingray".
Far more importantly, however, can anyone verify whether Edwin Astley
really died on 19 May 1998? If that's true, that would mean that his wife's
father passed away the day of Pete's birthday AND the day before Pete and
Karen's thirtieth anniversary. Not to be maudlin, but that kind of family
tragedy can be heart-wrenching. I haven't found much information about this
date, and I'm sure someone here or elsewhere in cyberspace might be able to
substantiate this.

>>>The story behind Astley's credit on "The Saint" is an
interesting one. The original "Saint" signature theme used
in the early movies ('40s/'50s) was penned by "The Saint"s
authour, Leslie Charteris. When the Moore series was being
made, Charteris asked Astley to update the signature tune.
The melody that Astley penned was based on a generations-old
whistle call which his family had used at their country home.
Isn't that a fascinating tidbit? :)
Astley also wrote the theme tune for Gerry Anderson's
"Stingray" series, whose producer, Barry Grey, owned the
home studio where The Detours recorded "It Was You".<<<
