DECIBELS. The Who

Hi There, Don't know if I'm allowed to do this but Here goes..On
Saturday 18th May 1974.At the Charlton Atheletic Football ground also
known as "the Valley" in South-East London,The Who played to an Audience
of at least 76,000 people in what back then was one of the first all
ticket stadium concerts to be held in Britain...Probably not the first
but definately one of the first. Supporting acts were,Lou Reed,Humble
Pie,Maggie Bell,Bad Company-recently formed after the breakup of
Free,Lindisfarne and the brilliant short lived Montrose. Dave Mason was
billed to appear but did not make it. The Greater London Council (GLC)
the administrative body that governed London at the time, had had numrous
complaints from residents who lived near concert venues about the levels
of noise from said events. So in an effort to appear to be doing
something about it,the GLC officials were present at the Who's
performance with various insruments etc to measure the levels of sound
etc..The Who were recorded at playing at 120db or decibels which at the
time was the loudest ever concert measured and subsequently became a
world record according to the Guiness book of world records,a record
which lasted for at least 10 years. It was also The Who's 10th aainversay
as a band and was filmed by the BBC. Great Gig!.Regards Derick.
