I really would never want to have to choose, but...

I think the reason I'm not as much a Kinks fan as a Who fan is that I
find the Who's big, bold, brassy stance in life more personally
appealing.  The Who are like Michaelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel
while the Kinks are like a great miniturist painting small portraits
filled with wonderful detail.

I also think Pete had better luck finding a band to lift his vision
to that level than Ray did with the Kinks.  The Kinks sometimes sound
to me what Pete's band would have sounded like if the Who had broken up
back in 1965.

Otherwise, if you've got all the Who LP's, you couldn't do better
than to start buying the Kinks.  Many of their records are magnificient.
