Pete's "Coming Out"

Brian,

>This may be the dumbest thing ever posted on this list...<

No, trust me, I've seen dumber (and I've only been
on the list a couple months <g>).

>But I've had a couple people tell me that Pete "came out" a while back. =

Now, I'm only 21, and have been a fan for about 5 years, so it is possibl=
e
that I missed something like this. But I really thought that if it were
the case, I would have heard about it. Once more than one person tells
you something like that, you think,"well, they must have gotten it
somewhere."<

Around 1985 or '86, TIME and/or ROLLING STONE reported that
Pete had revealed in an interview (sorry, I forget the original
source) that he was either bisexual or had homosexual tendencies.
I seem to remember him being quoted as saying he had been
attracted to men in the past; don't know if he ever acted on these
feelings.

Some evidence of these feelings can be found in songs like
"Rough Boys" and "And I Moved", both from EMPTY GLASS
(and yes, folks, I know he wrote the latter for Bette Midler; fact
remains that he recorded it w/out changing the lyrics). His
book of poetry, HORSE'S NECK, also has some intriguing
material about the subject.

Does all this mean Pete is bisexual (I'm certain he's not
simply homosexual)? I don't know. You're right when
you say it doesn't matter, except that it can make some
of his song lyrics more interesting.

Maybe someone else out there w/a better memory can
tell us more about this. =

>So let me know. And keep in mind that it doesn't matter one bit to me o=
ne
way or the other.<

I personally suspect most people have feelings for both
sexes at least once in a while, but few actually act upon
them. As for me, I'm happily married...draw what conclusions
you will. <g>
