Well this all sounds familiar! <g>. When I was in high school I used
to wear this jacket with all my Who buttons on it -- enough to cover
the entire front and add a significant amount of weight to the jacket!
The Who is the only band for whom I ever bought posters, buttons, etc.
The local "art" theatre used to show rock-n-roll movies as midnight
attractions; it was a college town, so there was always a new crowd
who hadn't seen "The Kids Are Alright" and other such films. The
owner of the theatre actually _owned_ a print of TKAA (although I
don't think it was obtained legally :), so it was shown fairly often.
A bunch of us from my school (my crowd were all Who fans, although I
was probably one of the most fanatical) would go see the film every
time, sitting in the 2nd or 3rd row. When Pete smashes Tommy Smothers
guitar in the opening scene, we would be shouting THE .... KIDS ...
ARE .... ALRIGHT!!!!! at the top of our lungs as the words flashed up
on the screen. Eventually I worked at that theatre (some of my other
Who cronies in high school worked there) and had the joy of projecting
the film myself. After the work night was over, we'd often pop on the
last reel of Kids while downing a few "bevvies" watching Our Boys :)
