Who vs. beatles (once again)

I have to agree: The Beatles are mainly a POP band. That's why the Beatles are
played on the oldies radio stations in every town I have ever been and the Who
are played on classic rock stations.

They wrote some very enjoyable songs; they were a lot of fun to listen to.
There are some songs which pack more of a punch, but simply because I can list
them, I know there aren't too many.

Sure, the Who did some light pop songs too. La-La-La-Lies isn't too deep and
profound. But they did have so so many songs--I mean, Pete was a lot more
messed up psychologically than McLen were. That's got to count for something.

I love Sgt. Pepper, but it doesn't rank anywhere near Who's Next or Quad. I
mean, it's a lot of fun to listen to, but I DON'T GET ANYTHING OUT OF IT. It
just doesn't grab me the way the Who's stuff does--even the later stuff is more
appealing to me. My best friend is a HUGE Beatles fan--and he agrees. He likes
it because it is so pop, so obvious, so light. It just isn't appealing to me.

And to say they never wrote a love song: BR&G off WBN.

The only instrumental debate is on Pete v. Paul on piano, and I think Paul might
pull this off--although that's only from concert. I don't know how much of the
piano Paul played on the studio albums. I know George Martin did a lot, just
like Nicky Hopkins.

BTW, does anyone know the story behind After the Fire? In the liner notes, it's
listed that proceeds go to Band Aid Trust. I loved the version Daltrey and the
Chieftains did of this song.

"Fletch, this time you goofed big. . .in the story of yours we ran
Wednesday, you have recent quotes from a man who's been dead two
years. . . ."

"At least give me a chance to check my sources."

"Like who? Saint Peter? You get him on the line, I want to know."
