Townsend would have a pretty good disagreement with you on that one.
Either you don't know Bruce or you don't know rock 'n roll. >>

Yeah, this is a very strange statement indeed. I've asked the writer
(name???) to explain what he meant but I have seen no reponse. I recall
reading some years ago Townshend referring to Darkness on the Edge of Town
as "a fucking triumph." It is.

In addition to liking his recorded music (some will disagree, of course) as
far as live performers go it's Bruce and The WHO and then everyone else.
Even at that Bruce had very few "off" nites while The WHO had their share,
as we know. At his peak he was untouchable. Bruce, probably more than
anyone, had the ability to hold the audience in the palm of his hand and take
them anywhere he wanted - we willingly followed. His fans constantly came
away awestruck, inspired and even emotionally drained from his 3 to 4 hour
shows. Almost a religious experience.

Years later, I find myself listening to The WHO a lot more than Bruce -
especially the re-issues. Now, if we could only get those early,
Talmy-produced songs re-mastered and in stereo.....
