Mark, I don't think that Rainman really meant that Jeannie was 
LITERALLY a continuation of the Steph character in the sense that Jim 
is a continuation of Jimmy.  Rather, I think the point was that 
Jeannie in 
her younger days turned more than a few heads and had her pick of the 
neighborhood lads, not unlike Steph as she appears in "Quadrophenia", 
or thousands of other young women for that matter.

And even if Jeannie was really intended to be Steph and not merely a 
character with a similar past, this doesn't mean that the male 
protagonist of "Slit Skirts" is Jimmy!  There are, after all, plenty 
of fish in the sea.
