townshend and art school--



i'm not sure what other Who member attended art school besides Townshend--but
the influence this education had on Pete was Tremendous . . . a major
difference separating Townshend from his contemporaries was the fact that he
took his Music VERY seriously . . . there had to be some integrity behind it;
the sole purpose here was NOT the money-making factor.  also, in addition to
his songwriting developing a noticeable lean towards the avant-garde, the
more Personal side of Pete's art school experience stirred within him his
obsession with adolescence (particularly adolescent frustration)--which
manifested itself in a large number (understatement!) of his songs . . .
