The Ox

Okay everybody, I'm going to go back into the past to the "My Generation"
LP. The song "The Ox" is one of my more favorite songs on the record. But
even though I listen to it often, it's hard to decipher at what point Pete
plays, and at what point John plays. Because the low riff seems to be played
on a bass, but then a definite guitar slash comes in and the riff seems to
go away. So is Pete playing the riff really low and John just can't be
heard? Or, is John playing the main riff and then gets turned down when Pete
plays? This is a problem that I run into sometimes when listening to some of
the Who songs, because a lot of times John plays very treble-y, like he's
playing a guitar. A good example is Run,Run,Run. I read from some interview
from a bass guitar magazine(Bass Frontiers, or something), that John began
practicing bass with records, and attempted to sound like the guitarist. And
IMHO, John's bass style probably was a big influence in Heavy Metal, since a
majority of Heavy Metal songs have a similiar riff as the one used in live
versions of "My Wife". (reference: The Kids Are Alright Soundtrack) And it
seems to me (my opinion) that almost all Metallica(<-spelling?) songs are a
copy off of this riff. Uh.... Umm.....Well, bye.
