Salamander, IMHO, it doesn't matter (at least in general) whether or not
the actor strongly resembles the person physically. If they were making
a film about Townshend, that'd be another story (because his facial
features were such a huge source of insecurity for him).
But, I agree--They can do better than Gibson for Moon. I don't think
Mel's energy is youthfully energetic enough, and his version of manic
really isn't. If it's produced soon, Branagh could be good in the role
(with dyed hair). He was actually in a dead heat against Tom Hulce to
play Amadeus (but then Milos Forman decided to cast American).
I, too, think they should get a Briton to play the role; British
actors are usually better than Americans (except where serious theater
is concerned, mind you, then America certainly does have its
heavy-weights)...and Mel Gibson was born in America.
