DAVE KIPP SAID "BEHIND BLUE EYES" SOUNDED GREAT AT THE HOLMDEL SHOW.
Dave, you're absolutely right about "Behind Blue Eyes." It was just a
tremendous, emotion packed rendition. Kind of makes me think that these guys
were having a little fun out there, like they were savoring the moment,
especially Pete. I mean, here he was, playing what's basically an
autobiographical song he wrote 27 years earlier - HIS SONG - in other words a
song that has had tremendous personal meaning to him, and he's still with the
guy who sang his song so well (better than he could himself), still with the
bass player who helped make it the classic it instantly became, not with the
same drummer, God rest his soul, but with the son of one of his
contemporaries/friend/fellow pioneers, which makes it almost as good as
having Keith, but of course not quite, all of his friends in the band
(Rabbit, Billy) even his own freaking *brother* there playing along, and an
amphitheater full of what he feels are the best, most appreciative Who fans
in the world (Pete's often referred to the NY, NJ area his home away from
home)...I'd say...
I forgot what point I was gonna trying to make...
I'd say that that was a special moment for Pete Townshend and the band. I
said this before, but the look on his face when he exited the stage for the
last time that night, the slumping shoulders, hands in pocket...he looked so
humble, almost embarrassed.
