Though not specifically for the 68-72 period, but in general, once he started
using the Hi-Watt stacks around that time, he used the top cabs only; the
bottoms were dummies. For settings, he'd just turn the pre all the way up,
the post about 5, and control the volume on the guitar. 

That's about all I can remember right now. I can research it more if you
like.
