Re: Face Dances

Hate to keep this topic going (could be a worse one though), but another
angle on the lackluster FD is the fact that the band did not build anything
on Pete's demos.

Just from the stuff on the Scoop albums, when you compare the demos of You
Better You Bet, Don't Let Go The Coat etc to the band's versions, there is
hardly anything added.

But with something like Bargain, Love Reign O'er Me etc. The band takes the
songs well beyond what Pete had. Even the It's Hard demos are more fleshed
out than FD ones.

Granted, Bargain is a better song than say, Daily Records, but if the band
had really contributed as they had in the past it would have been a much
better record.

I would have to say that it was a very awkward recording session for the band
because:
-it was the first recording with Kenney Jones
-it was the first with Warner Bros
-it was the first after a very successful Townshend solo album
-it was the first & only with producer Bill Syzymyck (?) who did OK with Joe
Walsh and the Eagles but I don't know how he got into the Who camp
