Davy Jones & Moonie

Just finished listening to the book on tape of Davy Jones' They Made a
Monkee Out of Me. In the middle of side four of cassette number two,
Jones tells of his encounter with the Who. It was in 1967. Jones met
Pete and Moonie in California. The only thing he said about Pete was
that his nose was a magnificent thing to see in person. About Moonie
he had much more to say. Harry Nielson was throwing a party somewhere
which included Nielson, Jones, Micky Dolenz (sp?), and Moonie. During
the drinking and conversation, Moon would only nod and smile at what
each person said. Nod and smile. Micky asked Moon if he thought the
sound was bad at the Monkee's show. Nod and smile. At that point
Moonie speaks. He gives them a card with a phone number on it and offers
to lend the Monkees some of the Who's old sound equipment. "Just ring
that number and we'll fix you up with whatever you need." (paraphrasing)
Later in London, Jones and Moonie are at some hotel next to Hyde Park,
on the ninth floor. Moonie takes his socks off and drops them on the
taxis below. Then he sits on the balcony railing. Jones thinks he is
going to leap off. The headlines would read "Kieth Moon Commits Suicide.
Davy Jones Implicated with Manslaughter." Then Moonie holds on the
railing with one hand and dangles off the balcony before deciding to
come back in. Jones really liked Moonie. He nicknamed him the magic man.
Enjoy.
