Tons of Stuff

Saw Pete on CBS this morning. Moderately interesting, but the interviewer
was clueless and they did a lousy job of editing. Probably left all of
Pete's interesting ramblings on the cutting room floor. My favorite part,
though, was how they mislabeled every one of the performance clips.

BTW, I caught the last minute of a Pete segment on CNN entertainment news
last night. My friend tells me that they tend to re-run things, so keep an
eye out. That bit was infinitely more interesting than CBS.

For what it's worth, I think Joe Jackson's <Look Sharp> is a great album.

As for the drumming debate, I give <Who's Next> the clear nod when it comes
to Keith. I don't think there's any comparison. Seems to me like WN was
clearly his last consistently spectacular performance. On Quad Keith is
certainly stronger than most anyone else, but already you could see the
deterioration that was exponentially magnified on each of the next two
efforts.

Next, if someone else has already posted the following info, I apologize for
the repetition (I'm one of those digest people). The new ICE lists July 2 as
the <Quad> release date. According to John Astley, they decided against
adding and bonus tracks, saying that it would destroy the feeling one has
after listening through the entire album. Pete suggested a 30 second pause
followed by an official announcement of bonus tracks. Astley claims that the
material will be on an extended <Odds and Sods.> The even worse news is that
only four tracks were remixed - "The Rock," "Quad," The Real Me," and "Dr.
Jimmy." Pete selected the first two and Roger the second two. I personally
think they all could use improvement. The re-release will include the 52
page booklet. (CD size like the MoFi, I imagine.)

On July 16, they are releasing a single CD GH called <My Generation: The Best
of The Who> designed to take the place of <Meaty Beaty...> The set list
wasn't set, but it'll have most of the singles including "Eminence Front."
Should clock in at about 78 min. Everything that Talmy doesn't hold will be
remixed (though some remixes will be from the box). This includes the full
length WGFA (not remixed on Who's Next) which they finally just found the
multi-track master for (in an unmarked box).

The report also states that not only will Odds and Sods be later this year,
but THE ISLE OF WIGHT HAS JUST CLEARED IT'S LAST LEGAL HURDLE!!!

Over and out...
