Re: Revolver Remixed? I don't think so

I made some comments about favoring the Beatles' Anthology to the Who box,
and other things, and Mark responded with:

Gary:

Keep in mind that we're talking about two different animals here...30 YEARS
was to be a collection of The Who's work from beginning to end (a "best of"
with extra unreleased cuts)...whereas the ANTHOLOGY I & II (and III for that
matter) were intended to present unreleased material only (which, as it
turns out, isn't quite true).

I reply with:

True, they are different in that they have different purposes. So I guess
in response, I would say that I prefer the purpose behind the Beatles'
Anthology to the Who's box. In looking at boxes, I think Clapton's Crossroads
was the first major one (am I right?) or maybe Springteen's Live box.
No one has, to my knowledge, tried to imitate Bruce's Live album on a box,
have they? Clapton's was a career retrospective box, which was great then,
because CD players were knew and Clapton fans didn't have all his discs
if all of them were even available. But with the Who, how many of us have
all their cds or close to all of them? And how many had them all before
30 Years came out? So what I would have liked to see from the Who is a box
that was more like what the Beatles are doing as far as purpose and their
methods of selecting tracks.

Mark also wrote:

As for you having several cuts that repeat on Who releases, you can thank
good ol' MCA for that...they've handled The Who's career about as poorly as
one can imagine. This would not be the case, had the boys been on Capitol.
It might, however, had they been on London (check The Stones catalog!).

I reply:

Yes! You understand my frustration exactly! That's what I intended to try
to explain above...if they had done things differently as far as how they
released things, then someone who owns 30 Years and all the discs has so
much of the same stuff over and over that it makes me wonder if I want to
spend the money to upgrade to the remasters. If I did that, then I'd be
getting new copies of the entire Who catalog and the entire Pink Floyd
catalog, and I'm sure there are several other bands who've done the same
thing as cd technology as changed.
