   hMMM... what I'm noticing now (after a few more listens) is that on some
   tracks, the drums are predominately on the left channel...

On the original MCA CD, certain tracks have the drums mixed entirely to one
channel (presumably, ditto for the vinyl, but of course vinyl doesn't have as
much channel separation as CD).  While this is nice if you want to study
individual parts, it's a stereo technique that rapidly dropped out of vogue as
stereo matured.  (Remember in TKAA Pete talking about listening to a Beatles
tune with the vocals in one channel and the instruments in the other?)

Are the tracks you mention the same as the ones from the original which have
the drums to one side?  I find this interesting, because I thought I read
Astley quoted as saying that one of the few changes they made to the mix
(apart from clean-ups) was to center the drums.
