Re: Politics Too

Mark, re:

>Sometimes you have to wonder if these people have ANY idea what they're
fighting! Gad what fools these morons be!

Oh, I think most of them are fools... very far removed from day-to-day
reality... However, the theory behind business tax breaks is this...

businesses do well, businesses hire people. People pay taxes.

I'd rather see people paying taxes while gainfully employed than the business
paying taxes instead...

I haven't studied the various theories behind the "flat tax", but at a
glance, it's a redistribution of the wealth or lack of. Currently, I'm
deducting the interest on my mortgage and getting a "tax break". With a flat
tax, that's eliminated. However, in my income bracket, will I pay MORE or
LESS than I'm currently paying and if so, that will have an impact (positive
or negative) on my lifestyle (perhaps) depending on the sevarity of the net
change...

What it does do is this... It's basis is that certain deductions are "unfair"
and with it, are history. To what impact on the economy? Think about the
businesses that count on sales based on people's ability to deduct?

Without too much thought, it appears way too simple and creates many
problems. What is the goal--to provide more tax income to the Govt? hMMM...
it might be easier just to raise taxes or create new ones...

>>As long as they perpetuate the myth that pot is more harmful than
alcohol...which is foolish, since it's actually less harmful than
aspirin...we'll never see reality there.

"myth"??? I don't think that's what it's all about. Personally, I don't care
what people do in there own homes to harm themselves as long as they don't
venture out and do things to others. Pot may or maynot be "more harmful than
alcohol". Let's just say it's the same. Does society really need either???
It's a shame that ALL "mind altering" drugs couldn't disappear tomorrow, but
that's not reality either. To me, reality is getting through life WITHOUT
having to do these things... However, if they could regulate it, tax it and
keep it in people's homes and off the streets and out of their cars, sure.
Let them all kill themselves. However, as long as Dr. Kevorkian is
continuously on trial...

>>.it sounds like he's extremely politically naive. He can negotiate when he
holds a strong or winning hand...which he never will, in this situation
(unless we vote his people into ALL of the posts).

Nah, I see Perot as someone who is "effective"--that is, someone who knows
how to get a job done. People like that excel in any environment and learn
quickly. Regardless of what you and I think, I'd like to see him try.

Personally, I'm disappointed in Clinton. I think he's an "invisible"
president. In the absense of Perot, I would have liked to see Bush given the
2nd opportunity with the current congress, but that's yet another story...
