Interest rates are not something the President or the congress can
manipulate. The Federal Reserve is responsible for that.

So? I am not Diogenes. This fascination with the personal morality of
politicians is fairly recent, and has not improved the breed to any
noticeable degree. I once worked for an honest politician who ran for
President. Thank God he was never elected.

I suppose the "off the record" part is because they don't want to call
attention to how rare it is to have an honest politician.
