The offical press release from the promoter billed the Australian tour as "The
Greatest Hits Of The Who" tour. At the press-conference announcing the tour
Roger said that the band will not call itself The Who joking "This is Who's
Left." So I guess they sat on the fence - not willing to call themselves The
Who yet ensuring the name of The Who was sufficiently used to attract ticket
sales.

Sadly of course it was all cancelled - the letter I received from the promoter
stated that "the decision to cancel was as a result of extremely poor public
response to the tour. Ticket sales were disappointingly low. At the time the
concert was cancelled, there were not enough tickets sold nationally to fill one
entertainment centre.". I am of the view that this was due primarily to lack of
advertising and over priced tickets. Of course as it turned out the promoter
was going into liquidation at the time as well.

Sadly I fear that were they to return, even with Pete AND calling themselves The
Who the ticket sales would not be much better. The Who do not have a high
profile here due probably to the fact that they did not come back after '68. I
hope (in vain I suspect) that one day I am proved wrong. This may constitute
heresy to some but I must admit that after reading the impressions of listers
from the Daltrey shows and also the Who-fest that a John/Roger/Zak/Simon tour
would be somewhat more appealing to me than seeing John/Roger/Zax/Pete/hangers
on...

Denis.

PS - To those who asked, I am still going to post the info from the Aspel & Co
interview concerning Roger "feeling" Keith's prescence. Bear with me...
